Message i did look at it from his perspective. IF it were to happen to me, i'd simply ask my parents to shoot me some money to help me fix the little problems to keep the car in pretty good running condition until i could afford to do the major work myself. now, that's just me and that's how i'd handle it.

now, if i were to look at it from a parent perspective, this is how i would handle it. regardless of the fact that i'm making good money, my question would be, "who bought this car?" my son? wonderful, i'm happy that he did. i'm glad that he has a his own job, paying for his own shit, and buying the car that HE wants. can i help him out here and there with things like paying for a month's insurance when he's short or paying for the work on his clutch, etc.? sure, i'm still running on the fact that my son has his own job and is paying for MOST of his own expenses. whether or not he's pay me back, i'd like him to insist it upon me, but i doubt i'd be pushing him into paying me back.

on the flip side, if the answer to who bought him the car was ME? it'd be a totally different story. NEVER, would i buy my child a Benz, Z (used or not), 240SX, BMW, etc. NEVER. i'm assuming that this is his first car. if i were to buy MY child a car, they're going to get what i get them. they're going to learn to understand how to treat a car, take care of one, learn to appreciate what they have, and how to drive a car. i'll buy my child a car if they choose not to get their own job and pay for their own, but understand that they're going to get a "beater" (i.e. Honda Civic, Corolla, Tercel, Hyundai, Saturn, etc.). if they want a nicer car, get a job, make some money, offer up a proposition to pay me back, pay for the car, etc. and we can talk. i worked and paid for my first car. never, in a million years, would i allow my parents to up and buy me a car (used or not, it's a fuckin' Benz) that costs probably 3x as much as the car i bought. no offense to you, _DETT or anyone else here, but that's not how i was raised and taught. i worked stupid hard for what luxuries i am able to enjoy.
